Turanor Planet Solar, the largest solar-powered boat in the world lit up the Grand Harbour of Malta on August 4th 2012 to continues its world tour without consuming a liter of fuel to show that solar energy is a real alternative to fossil fuel consumption.
According to local media, the boat that is powered by an array of 537 square metres of high efficiency solar cells provided by Sunpower Corporation, will be in Malta on a week-long visit. So, members of the public have a chance to view (but not board) the solar-powered boat from St Angelo Wharf before Friday, August 10th.
The Turanor Planet Solar journey to Malta is supported by the Resources and Rural Affairs Ministry, the Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Ministry, Sunpower Malta Ltd, Alternative Technologies Ltd – Sunpower’s authorised distributor in Malta – and Grand Harbour Marina plc, a member of the Camper & Nicholson Marinas group.
